March 21 , 2008 - Vector Releases An Updated Material Requirements and Supply Chain Analysis For Armor Deployed on US Military Ground Vehicles.
Vector Strategy is pleased to announce a March 21, 2008 update to their Material Requirements and Supply Chain Analysis of Armor Procurement for Military Ground Vehicles.
This forecast is available for immediate purchase from Vector Strategy and provides updated requirements for significant material components of armor in weight and US$ market value. The report also provides an analysis of the armor supply chain and major supply chain participants.
"We have made several changes in assumptions and/or refinements of our armor designs since the original publication of this report in November 2007," according to Marcia Price, president of Vector Strategy. "The most significant consequence of these changes on our forecast of material requirements is an increase in composite and ballistic fiber requirements in 2008. However the requirements of all materials, including steel, aluminum, and transparent armor, have all been revised and updated."
Some of the most significant changes in Vector's assumptions for this new forecast include:
- All vehicle counts and armor kit counts are now based on Vector's December 2007 procurement forecast (rather than their July 2007 forecast).
- Vector has refined their HMMWV Frag Kit 6 armor design assumptions based on the latest available intelligence and has lowered the total 2008 procurement quantity for this kit.
- Vector moved LTAS incorporation within FMTVs from late 2007 into mid 2008.
- Vector incorporated LTAS implementation (and thus A and B kit armor) into HEMTT (A4) new vehicle production mid 2008. They also incorporated LTAS on the HEMTT Extended Service Program mid 2008.
- Vector assumes that the B kit armor for the HEMTT A4 incorporates non metallic components within the armor solution.
- Vector assumes that all tactical wheeled vehicles built to LTAS requirements incorporate the use of thicker transparent armor (ballistic glass) to meet increased threat levels.
- Vector has refined their armor design assumptions for EFP protection for MRAP vehicles. They increased the areal density of this protection, added a significant fiber reinforced composite component, and reduced the use of P-900 armor plate within this armor kit.
